Altree Capital is pleased to announce its investment in Kasha, a platform specialising in digital retail and last-mile delivery of healthcare products and services. The organization started in Rwanda in 2016 and launched in Kenya in 2018. Kasha recently incorporated in South Africa and plans to utilise the investment to expand its platform and enterprise services further across the continent, with plans to expand into West Africa in 2024. Kasha was founded by Joanna Bichsel and approximately just under half the team is female. The team consists of 43% of women in senior management positions and 48% in mid-management positions. This investment is in line with Altree Capital’s goal of investing in African companies that are led, founded by and focused on women. Altree is excited to contribute to Kasha's growth potential which is in alignment with our strategic goals for gender equality.

Kasha distribution to last-mile, hard to reach areas |
Kasha is one of East Africa’s major platforms for the last-mile delivery of health care and FMCG products with integrated credit options. It is a rapidly expanding company that targets women as its core market and caters to the lower class, high-volume, mass-market customer group, including hard-to-reach locations. The company uses a centralized digital platform for the sale and last-mile distribution of high-quality, reasonably priced health and personal care items leveraging it B2B and itsB2C pharmaceutical distribution licences in Rwanda and Kenya.

Kasha - Access choice, trust |
“The exponential revenue growth we’ve experienced over the last several years was driven by the high market demand for quality, affordable health products and household goods from mass market customers in urban and rural areas of East Africa, and this has proven out our business model and our team’s ability to execute,” said Kasha founder and CEO Joanna Bichsel in the statement. “We will be using the funds from series B to expand across Africa and invest in strategic areas of the business to further continue our high-growth trajectory,” Bichsel said.
We have invested in Kasha as we are impressed by the management team, its vision and strong growth potential. We are impressed at how capital-efficient the business is, and the fact that Kasha is founded and led by Joanna Bichsel, distributing products with a strong focus on women, fits perfectly with our investment philosophy. Altree will continue to work with Kasha on its environmental strategy and initiatives driving sustainability across the business.
Altree Capital’s collaboration with the U.S Government’s Prosper Africa initiativehas been instrumental in facilitating our investment in Kasha, digital mass-market retail platform for women's health, enhancing Altree Capitals commitment to empowering initiatives that drive positive impacts on women's health and well-being in Kenya and Rwanda.
